About Mitzi

Every book begins with a question, grows through imagination, and comes alive when a reader turns the page.

My Story

I was born in San Antonio, Texas, on February 9, and moved to El Paso with my family when I was just one year old. I spent the next eighteen years there with my parents and three brothers, enjoying what I remember as an idyllic childhood. Our family seemed to be involved in every sport imaginable, and I have vivid memories of rushing from gymnastics meets to band practice, football and baseball games, and finally to the golf course. Looking back, I have to say my parents were superheroes.

After high school, my family moved to Houston, but I found a job in San Antonio and remained there, living with my grandmother until I married John Kelly in 1981. I discovered that I had a talent for accounting, but I also enjoyed working in my husband’s construction business, where I could go from sitting at a desk with a calculator to spending the day on my hands and knees painting trim. When our son was born in 1982, life became even busier but he quickly became the supervisor of everything, happily watching it all unfold from his blanket.

Through every stage of my life, one thing has remained constant: my love of reading. From reading as a young girl during nap time to enjoying a book as an adult, getting lost in another world has always been one of my favorite ways to relax. That love eventually inspired me to write my first book, Classic Revenge. What began as a cozy mystery series later expanded into romantic fiction and fact-based biographical fiction. Much like my working life, my writing has taken me in many different directions and I believe there is no sense being tied down to one area of interest.

Personal Life

Mitzi Kelly’s life has always been filled with family, activity, and stories. She married John Kelly in 1981, and together they welcomed their son in 1982. Her husband passed away in 2014, while their son has since grown into adulthood.Today, Mitzi continues to embrace a lively and full life surrounded by two oversized dogs, numerous nieces and nephews, and an always-busy calendar. Her experiences, relationships, and observations continue to provide inspiration for her writing. As she puts it, “Where there is life, there are stories.”

I believe age is not the end of the story; it is where the story becomes richer. There are mysteries that demand wisdom, courage, and a stubborn refusal to be overlooked—and sometimes the most unlikely people are the ones destined to uncover the truth.
